Before the 18th season of the IPL, a mega auction will be held this year. During this time, franchises will have to retain and release players. Prior to this, the franchises have requested three changes. These include the duration of the mega auction, the number of player retentions, and the right-to-match (RTM) issue.
Franchises Demand Three Rule Changes
According to media reports, the franchises recently met with IPL officials. During this meeting, the teams requested changes to three IPL rules. Before the mega auction, the franchises asked for the auction duration to be extended to five years. Additionally, they want teams to be allowed to retain four to six players and for each team to have at least eight RTM options. However, no decision has been made yet.
What Will Be the Benefit of Extending the Mega Auction Duration?
The reason for requesting the mega auction to be held every five years is that it will give young players more time to develop. This will benefit uncapped players, helping them improve their game. Currently, the IPL mega auction takes place every three years.

Why Do Franchises Want Changes to RTM?
In the meeting, the franchises also requested changes to the right-to-match (RTM) option from IPL officials. Teams want the RTM option to be increased to eight before the mega auction. If this happens, it will make it easier for teams to match the highest bids and re-sign their old players.
