Joe Root, the star Test batsman from England, has once again showcased his brilliance by scoring a century against Sri Lanka at Lord’s. With this century, Root has now become the leading century-maker among the Fab Four players. Previously, Root was tied with Australia’s Steve Smith and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, each having 32 centuries. Among the Fab Four, Virat Kohli is now at the bottom with 29 centuries.

Root’s Century Puts Sri Lanka on the Backfoot

When Root came in to bat on Thursday, England had lost 2 wickets for just 42 runs in the 10th over. Openers Ben Duckett (40) and Harry Brook (33) provided some support. However, Jamie Smith (21) and Chris Woakes (6) could not contribute much, leaving England at 216 for 6. Root then partnered with Gat Ankins to add 92 runs and complete his century.

Root’s Remarkable Rise Over the Past 4 Years

During this innings, Root also became the leader in the Fab Four list for Test cricket. Just four years ago, in 2020, Root was at the bottom of this list, with Virat Kohli leading with 27 centuries at that time.
