The retention date for IPL 2025 is approaching. While players are feeling the pressure, teams are busy finalizing their plans. Some players are still waiting for a call from their franchise even just two days before the retention, while others have already been informed that they will be retained. Although the final list of retained players is yet to be revealed, here’s a look at the remaining purse amounts for each team before retention.
This year, teams will have a purse of INR 120 crore for the auction
In the last IPL auction, the purse was set at INR 100 crore, within which teams had to purchase their entire squad. Even so, some teams managed to assemble a full squad and save a substantial amount. This year, the purse has been raised from INR 100 crore to INR 120 crore, a direct 20% increase. Additionally, any funds from releasing players will be added back to each team’s purse.
Delhi Capitals currently has the highest purse remaining
As of now, Delhi Capitals has the most funds left in their purse, with INR 9.9 crore remaining. The team carefully managed its purchases to build a squad while also saving funds. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals has the least amount left, with only INR 20 lakh remaining after spending lavishly on players. This means they will likely need to release some high-cost players to free up funds in their purse.

Current remaining purse amounts for each team
After Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals, here are the purse amounts for other teams. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the five-time champions, have INR 1 crore left. Gujarat Titans have INR 7.85 crore remaining, while Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) currently have INR 1.35 crore left. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have INR 95 lakh, Mumbai Indians have saved INR 1.5 crore, Punjab Kings have INR 4.15 crore, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have INR 2.85 crore, and Sunrisers Hyderabad have INR 3.2 crore remaining.
How the purse calculation works
Each team will start with a maximum of INR 120 crore to spend. However, the cost of retained players will be deducted from this amount first. For example, if a team retains a single player valued at INR 20 crore, they will enter the auction with only INR 100 crore remaining to buy new players. This setup should now be easier to understand.
