The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may soon change the rules regarding players traveling with their families on overseas tours. Indian players will now have to seek permission from the board if they wish to spend more time with their families beyond the stipulated duration. Recently, former Indian captain Virat Kohli shared his views on the rule that limits family presence during foreign tours. He stated that when a player is going through a tough phase during a tour, the presence of family members plays a crucial role.
Report Reveals Possible Changes
According to a report by news agency ANI, a BCCI source has revealed that the board might revise the duration allowed for players to travel with their families. Players will need to get approval from the board if they wish to extend their family stay during a tour.
BCCI Introduced a New Policy
Following India’s loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, BCCI introduced new policies. As per these rules, during a 45-day tour, players’ family members can stay with them for a maximum of two weeks. For shorter tours, the family can accompany the player for up to one week.

Kohli Spoke About the Rule
While discussing BCCI’s policy, Virat Kohli addressed the issue during an RCB event. He stated that it is difficult for people to understand the importance of having family support when things are not going well on a tour.
He expressed his disappointment, saying, “I feel frustrated because people who have nothing to do with a player’s struggles are often given unnecessary attention. If you ask a player whether they want their family around all the time, the answer will always be yes. No one wants to sit alone in a hotel room feeling sad. I want to live a normal life, and that helps me take my cricketing responsibilities seriously.”
Players Seen With Families During Champions Trophy
During the recently concluded Champions Trophy, players like Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami were seen with their families in Dubai. However, their families did not stay at the team hotel, and all expenses were borne by the players themselves, not by BCCI.
