Champions Trophy 2025: Will It Be Cancelled? Questions Intensify After This Major Update

Reports now suggest that the upcoming ICC meeting may not include the Champions Trophy on its agenda.

Champions Trophy 2025

Doubts over the Champions Trophy 2025 have deepened further. The ICC, cricket’s governing body, has yet to reach any concrete decision on the tournament. Reports now suggest that the upcoming ICC meeting may not include the Champions Trophy on its agenda. However, there is no clarity yet on when this meeting will take place. According to Cricbuzz, sources indicate that the meeting might occur on December 5, though this is not confirmed.

This will be the first meeting under the chairmanship of Jay Shah, who took charge as the ICC President on December 1. In an official statement, the ICC welcomed Shah, expressing optimism about his leadership marking a new chapter in world cricket.

Champions Trophy Unlikely to Feature on December 5 Agenda

It is speculated that Jay Shah may call for a virtual board meeting on December 5. However, the agenda for this meeting is expected to be relatively low-priority matters, and it remains unclear whether the Champions Trophy will be discussed. Doubts about the tournament arose after India declined to travel to Pakistan for the event.

While reports suggest Pakistan has agreed to adopt a hybrid model, it comes with a condition that may complicate matters.

PCB’s Condition for the Hybrid Model

Under the hybrid model, Pakistan is willing to host the Champions Trophy, with matches involving India played at a neutral venue like Dubai. However, PCB has added a clause that the BCCI must adopt the hybrid model for all ICC events in India until 2031. This would mean hosting Pakistan’s matches in neutral venues such as Colombo during ICC tournaments held in India.

So far, there has been no indication from the BCCI that it is open to accepting PCB’s proposal, further clouding the future of the Champions Trophy.
