Sir Curtly Elconn Lynwall Ambrose (born 21 September 1963) is a former cricketer from Antigua who played 98 Test matches for the West Indies. He is considered one of the greatest fast bowlers ever, taking 405 Test wickets at an average of 20.99. For much of his career, he was ranked as the best bowler in the world. Standing 6 feet 7 inches tall (2.01 m), his height helped him make the ball bounce high, combined with his speed and accuracy, making him very hard for batsmen to face. Ambrose was known for being quiet and didn’t talk much to journalists. In 1992, he was named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year, and after retiring, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame and chosen in the West Indies all-time XI.
