The two-day auction for IPL 2025 has come to an end. During this time, all 10 teams spent money like water, placing massive bids worth crores on individual players. In just a few hours, transactions worth crores of rupees were completed. With this, the teams are now ready for the next season of the Indian Premier League, which is expected to begin in March. However, one question remains: Do the teams still have some money left in their purses after the auction? The answer is yes. Teams could have bought a few more players with the remaining funds.
Rishabh Pant Becomes the Most Expensive Player in IPL History
Rishabh Pant is now the most expensive player in IPL history. Until two days ago, this record was held by Mitchell Starc, but Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) broke it by signing Pant for a whopping ₹27 crore. Over the two-day auction, teams bought a total of 182 players, including 62 overseas players. This time, BCCI also provided teams with the Right to Match (RTM) card, which allowed eight players to stay with their original teams. Talking about the total spending over the two days, teams shelled out ₹639.15 crore in total.
RCB Has the Most Money Left After the Auction
Among all the teams, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has the highest amount left in their purse after the auction, saving ₹75 lakh. However, the team bought only 22 players instead of the maximum 25 allowed. With a base price of ₹30 lakh, they could have bought two more players but chose not to. Punjab Kings saved ₹35 lakh but filled their squad with 25 players, leaving no room for additional signings. Rajasthan Royals saved ₹30 lakh after buying 20 players, which could have been used to add one more player.
Only Three Teams Have Full 25-Player Squads
As per BCCI rules, IPL teams can have a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 25 players in their squads. While all teams adhered to the minimum requirement, only three teams completed the maximum squad size of 25 players. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) filled their squad with 25 players and had just ₹5 lakh left. Gujarat Titans also filled their roster with 25 players and saved ₹15 lakh. Punjab Kings completed their squad of 25 players as well, saving ₹35 lakh.
