The mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is currently underway in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. All 10 franchises are splurging huge amounts to secure their favorite players. Here, we bring you a list of the top 5 most expensive players sold in this IPL mega auction.

Table of Contents

  • Rishabh Pant
  • Shreyas Iyer
  • Venkatesh Iyer
  • Arshdeep Singh
  • Yuzvendra Chahal

Rishabh Pant

Indian team’s experienced wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has become the most expensive player in IPL history. His base price was set at ₹2 crore. The bidding started with Lucknow Super Giants, followed by RCB, but they dropped out early. Then a bidding war erupted between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow. Ultimately, Lucknow clinched the deal, purchasing Pant for a record ₹27 crore. Delhi Capitals considered using the Right to Match (RTM) card and even raised their paddle, but Lucknow placed a ₹27 crore bid. Seeing this, Delhi decided not to use the RTM card, allowing Pant to join Lucknow.

Shreyas Iyer

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer became the second most expensive player in IPL history. Punjab Kings bought him for ₹26.75 crore. A fierce bidding war took place between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, with KKR showing interest but withdrawing early. Iyer’s base price was ₹2 crore.

Venkatesh Iyer

Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer received a hefty paycheck in this year’s mega auction, making him the third most expensive Indian player in IPL history. He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹23.75 crore.

Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh, with a base price of ₹2 crore, was initially purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹15.75 crore. However, Punjab Kings used the Right to Match (RTM) card to retain the 25-year-old pacer for ₹18 crore.

Yuzvendra Chahal

Veteran Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal also attracted significant bids in the auction, making him one of the top picks of the season. He was sold for Rs 18 Crore to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
