Bumrah is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru due to a back injury and is expected to miss the initial matches of the tournament.
Speaking at Mumbai Indians’ pre-season press conference, Jayawardene said, “Jasprit Bumrah is at the NCA. We are waiting for feedback on his progress. So far, everything is going well, and he is improving day by day.”
The MI coach further added, “He is in good shape, but his absence is a challenge for the team. He is one of the best bowlers in the world.”
Bumrah has been out of action since January when he was unable to bowl in the second innings of the final Test against Australia in Sydney. India lost that match, and Australia sealed the series 3-1 by chasing down 162 runs.

With uncertainty surrounding Bumrah’s return, MI captain Hardik Pandya emphasized the importance of having the 30-year-old’s presence in the dressing room.
Bumrah is expected to join his MI teammates in early April and continue his rehabilitation with the squad. A recent video of him bowling also surfaced, giving hope to fans.
Pandya said, “I am lucky to have three captains playing alongside me – Rohit (Sharma), Suryakumar (Yadav), and Bumrah. They always support me, and whenever I need help, they are there for me.”
