The Sydney Test match between India and Australia has reached a thrilling stage. Only two days of play have been completed, and already two innings are over, while India has lost 6 wickets in their third innings. Despite this, Team India has taken a lead of 145 runs. However, the biggest concern for Team India is the fitness of their captain and star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. On the second day of the match, Bumrah suddenly left the field and went to the hospital, causing concern among the Indian team and fans. It has now been revealed that Bumrah experienced back pain, and the medical team is closely monitoring him.

Update on Bumrah’s Fitness

On Saturday, 4th January, the second day of the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Australia resumed their first innings. Bumrah bowled extensively in the first session and even took the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne. However, during the second session, he suddenly left the field, leaving Indian fans worried. Bumrah was later seen leaving the stadium in training gear, accompanied by the team physio, and heading out in a car.

When India started their second innings, Bumrah returned to the stadium shortly after. However, everyone was eagerly waiting for an update on his injury. After the day’s play, fast bowler Prasidh Krishna addressed the press and provided an update on Bumrah’s condition. He revealed that Bumrah suffered back stiffness and was taken for scans. The medical team is keeping a close watch on him.

Will Bumrah Bowl Again?

While Prasidh did not disclose the severity of the injury, it has raised questions about whether Bumrah will be able to bowl in the second innings. Reports suggest that Bumrah might come out to bat if required, as his injury is not currently considered too serious. However, the decision regarding his bowling will be taken on the morning of Day 3 or when it is time for India to bowl.

Will Team India Take the Risk?

Bumrah has been the most successful bowler in this series for both teams and has consistently delivered strong performances. Team India will need him in this match, but they also face a dilemma—should Bumrah be allowed to bowl if he is not fully fit?

The dilemma exists because India not only has to finish this Test match but also prepare for the upcoming Champions Trophy next month. The team’s performance in that tournament will heavily rely on Bumrah’s bowling.

If Bumrah’s injury turns out to be serious, he could be out of action for several days, which could be disastrous for Team India. It is also important to note that before delivering remarkable performances over the past 18 months, Bumrah was out of action for nearly a year due to a back injury. Team India will certainly want to avoid a similar situation and ensure Bumrah’s long-term fitness.
