England’s batsman Joe Root is on a remarkable streak, breaking records in almost every Test match he plays. At one time, this consistent record-breaking spree was synonymous with Sachin Tendulkar. Now, England’s cricketing legend has started toppling many of Tendulkar’s records. On Sunday, during a blistering knock against New Zealand, Root set another world record in Test cricket, surpassing three legendary players in the process.

Joe Root has now become the highest run-scorer in the fourth innings of Test cricket. In the Christchurch Test against New Zealand, he played a quickfire knock of 23 runs off 15 balls. This performance saw him surpass South Africa’s former captain Graeme Smith, England’s former captain Alastair Cook, and the “God of Cricket,” Sachin Tendulkar. Before this match, Root had 1,607 runs in the fourth innings, which has now increased to 1,630.

When Root scored five runs in the match, he overtook Graeme Smith and Alastair Cook. By the time he reached 19 runs, he had become the highest run-scorer in the fourth innings of Test cricket, a record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar, who had scored 1,625 runs. Root’s tally now stands at 1,630. Meanwhile, Smith and Cook each scored 1,611 runs for their respective teams, while Shivnarine Chanderpaul had 1,580 runs.
