The second day of the Gabba Test match was dominated by Australia as they ended the day at 405/7, powered by centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith. For India, Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler, claiming five wickets and showcasing his class. However, the match took a controversial turn when former England cricketer Isa Guha made a racially insensitive remark about Bumrah during commentary, sparking a major uproar.

Racial Comment by Female Commentator on Bumrah

In the first session of Day 2, Jasprit Bumrah gave India a solid start, dismissing both Australian openers cheaply. His brilliant spell drew praise from former Australian pacer Brett Lee, who, while commentating for Fox Cricket, said, “Bumrah today: five overs, 2 for 4. That’s the tone you want to see from your former captain.”

Isa Guha, who was commentating alongside Brett Lee, responded by saying, “He’s the MVP, isn’t he? The Most Valuable Primate, Jasprit Bumrah.”

Typically, MVP stands for Most Valuable Player, but Isa Guha’s use of the word primate, which translates to “monkey,” has sparked outrage. Her comment has now embroiled her in a serious controversy.

Not the First Racial Incident in Australia

This is not the first time Indian players have faced racial abuse in Australia. Cricket fans still remember the infamous 2008 “Monkeygate” scandal, where Andrew Symonds accused Harbhajan Singh of calling him a “monkey.” The incident led to Harbhajan being banned for a few matches.

Jasprit Bumrah Shines with 5 Wickets

Despite the controversy, Jasprit Bumrah remained a key performer for India, taking five wickets in the first innings of the Gabba Test. This marks his second five-wicket haul of the series. His victims included Usman Khawaja, Nathan McSweeney, Steve Smith, Travis Head, and Mitchell Marsh. Bumrah had also taken five wickets in an innings in the series opener, cementing his status as India’s premier pacer.
