The cricket world has been shaken by an unexpected announcement. A legendary cricketer from world cricket has suddenly declared his retirement, leaving everyone in shock. West Indies’ veteran fast bowler Shannon Gabriel has announced his retirement from international cricket. Gabriel made his international debut on May 17, 2012, in a Test match against England at Lord’s.
Shannon Gabriel’s international career spanned 12 years. He took 166 wickets in 59 Test matches for the West Indies. In addition, he claimed 33 wickets in 25 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and took 3 wickets in 2 T20 Internationals for the West Indies. Gabriel announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 36.
In total, Shannon Gabriel took 202 international wickets. His sudden retirement has left everyone surprised, as many believed he could have continued playing for another two years. In 2019, Gabriel was banned for four ODIs after making anti-gay remarks towards England’s star batsman Joe Root, a controversy that caused a significant stir in the cricketing world.

On Wednesday, Shannon Gabriel said, “Over the past 12 years, I dedicated myself to playing international cricket for the West Indies. Playing this beloved sport on the big stage brought me immense joy, but as they say, all good things must come to an end. Today, I announce my retirement from international cricket. Moving forward, I plan to continue representing my country Trinidad and Tobago, clubs, and franchise teams worldwide with the same love and passion that I have shown throughout my career.”
