Meanwhile, let’s look at the players who have lost the most matches in IPL history. Some of the names in the top 5 might surprise you.

Players with the Most Losses in IPL

5. Shikhar Dhawan
Known as “Gabbar,” Shikhar Dhawan is ranked fifth among players with the most losses in IPL history. He has played 222 matches, losing 108 of them. Despite this, Dhawan has scored 6,769 runs at a strike rate of 127.14 and an average of 35.26.

4. MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni, who holds the record for playing the most matches in IPL history, is fourth on this list. Dhoni has played 264 matches, scoring 5,243 runs at a strike rate of 137.54 and an average of 39.13. Despite leading Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles, Dhoni ranks sixth among the all-time highest run-scorers in the tournament.

3. Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma ranks third among players with the most IPL losses. He has played 257 matches and faced defeat in 119 of them. Rohit has scored 6,628 runs at a strike rate of 131.14 during his IPL career.

2. Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik takes the second spot on this list. He has scored 4,842 runs at a strike rate of 135.36. Karthik has represented multiple teams in the IPL and eventually retired as a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad.

1. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli, despite being the highest run-scorer in IPL history, holds the record for the most losses in the league. From 2008 to 2024, Kohli played 252 matches, scoring 8,004 runs at a strike rate of 131.97 and an average of 38.67. While he is a batting legend, this statistic highlights the challenges his teams have faced over the years.
