Former multiple World Cup winning captain for Australia, Ricky Ponting has voiced his opinion regarding the opening pair of Team India for T20 World Cup 2024. Ricky said that India is going to go with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma at the top. This will give them much more flexibility in the middle order.
It is to be noted that Virat Kohli is a contender for Orange Cap in IPL 2024. He scored 741 runs in 15 matches with a strike rate of over 154. Kohli also registered a century in the tournament. The Indian run-machine is back in his full form and Ponting believes that he should open with Rohit Sharma. Kohli has opened for RCB in the entire season of IPL 2024.

“They (selectors) have still got a decision to make (on the opening pair) because (Yashasvi) Jaiswal is in that squad and one thing they haven’t got a lot in their team is left-hand batters. So they’ve got a decision to make with Jaiswal (batting position), but I’m pretty sure that they’ll go with Kohli and Rohit Sharma (as openers),” said Ricky Ponting.
“He can play his role at the top. And if you’ve got the right guys around him scoring (like) Suryakumar (Yadav)… Rohit Sharma’s going to have a high strike rate. These other guys can go in there and play their way,” Ponting added.
