In the Test match against Bangladesh being played in Kingston, a West Indies bowler delivered a sensational performance, breaking a long-standing record. This remarkable event is the first of its kind in 46 years in cricket’s longest format. His destructive bowling left Bangladesh far from the 200-run mark in their first innings of the second Test, giving the host team a strong grip on the match. The player at the center of this historic moment is Jayden Seales, who broke an Indian bowler’s record while scripting history against Bangladesh.

Jayden Seales Breaks 46-Year-Old Record

Jayden Seales bowled 15.5 overs, including 10 maidens, conceding just 5 runs and taking 4 wickets in Bangladesh’s first innings. His economy rate of 0.31 is the best recorded in men’s Test cricket since 1978. Previously, the record belonged to India’s fast bowler Umesh Yadav, who achieved an economy of 0.42 during a Test against South Africa in 2015. Umesh bowled 21 overs with 16 maidens, conceding 9 runs and taking 3 wickets. However, Seales has now surpassed Yadav’s record.

West Indies Dominate Bangladesh

Seales’ victims in the innings included Litton Das, Taskin Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan, and Nayeem Hasan. He received excellent support from fellow bowlers Shemar Joseph and Kemar Roach, resulting in Bangladesh being bowled out for just 164 runs in their first innings. In reply, West Indies ended the day at 70/1, trailing by only 94 runs with 9 wickets in hand. This puts the hosts in a commanding position, leaving Bangladesh with the challenging task of dismissing the remaining West Indies batsmen quickly to stay in the match.

West Indies had already secured a dominant 201-run victory in the first Test. If they win the second Test as well, they will claim the Test series.
