Asia Cup 2025 to be Played in India in T20 Format

The 2025 Men’s Asia Cup will be hosted in India in T20 format.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) organizes the Asia Cup, along with other tournaments such as the ACC Women’s Asia Cup, Men’s Under-19 Asia Cup, Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, Women’s Under-19 Asia Cup, and Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Now, the ACC has proposed media rights for these tournaments, with a base price of 170 million USD, which is around 1,428.51 crore INR.

Media Rights Announced

According to reports from Cricbuzz, the main event in the media rights package is the Men’s Asia Cup, which will have four editions between 2024 and 2031. The 2025 Men’s Asia Cup will be hosted in India in T20 format. After that, the 2027 edition will take place in Bangladesh in the ODI format, 2029 in Pakistan in T20 format, and finally, in Sri Lanka in ODI format. Each edition of the Asia Cup will have a total of 13 matches. For broadcasters, India vs. Pakistan matches are highly important. In each edition, there could be two India-Pakistan matches, and possibly three if both teams reach the final.

Previous Asia Cup Held in a Hybrid Model

Pakistan was the host of the Asia Cup 2023, but India refused to play in Pakistan. This led to the tournament being played in a hybrid model, where India’s matches were held in Sri Lanka, while Pakistan played some of its matches on its home ground. India won the tournament by defeating Sri Lanka in the final.

Winners to Be Decided by E-Auction

According to the Cricbuzz report, the price and the winner of the media rights will be decided through an e-auction. Interested broadcasters must submit their technical bids in Dubai by 30th October. It will be interesting to see which broadcasters show interest in these rights.
