The IPL 2025 mega auction is set to take place on the 24th and 25th of this month in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. All IPL franchises are busy preparing for this major event. A significant update has emerged regarding the auction. The BCCI has informed the IPL franchises that there will be two sets of marquee players in the mega auction, which will be held on November 24 and 25.
According to franchise sources, the BCCI has stated that there will be two marquee lists, each comprising 8-9 players. While having two sets of marquee players in a mega auction isn’t unprecedented, the last auction in 2022 featured only one set. However, both the 2018 and 2014 auctions included two sets.
The elite group of players includes Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, R Ashwin, Mitchell Starc, and Jos Buttler. The mega auction will take place at the Abadi Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, also known as the Benchmark Arena.
Big Spending Expected in the Mega Auction
Each marquee player has set their base price at INR 2 crore. It is anticipated that by the end of the first two sets, 30-50% of the auction purse will be spent. Each franchise is likely to secure at least two big names, with prices expected to range between INR 20-25 crore. Out of an estimated INR 1,200 crore spent on retentions recently, franchises have already used INR 558.5 crore.
Punjab Kings Hold the Largest Purse
The BCCI has asked franchises to suggest new names they would like to see included in the auction. Franchises have been requested to submit their list of players for the final registration by November 12. If each franchise fills the maximum limit of 25 players in their squad, around 204 players will be purchased at the auction, including up to 70 overseas players. Punjab Kings will enter the auction with the largest purse, having over INR 110 crore available.
