India’s young star batsman Abhishek Sharma delivered a sensational performance against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, breaking multiple records along the way. Playing for Punjab, Abhishek smashed a century off just 28 balls, leading his team to a remarkable victory in just 10 overs. His unbeaten 106-run knock not only ensured Punjab’s win but also shattered a mega record held by T20 star Suryakumar Yadav.

Abhishek’s Explosive Century Seals Victory for Punjab in 10 Overs

Batting first, Meghalaya managed to score 142/7 in their 20 overs against a disciplined Punjab bowling attack. In reply, Punjab opener Abhishek Sharma launched an aggressive assault from the very first ball, smashing 11 sixes and 8 fours in his blistering 29-ball 106*. Thanks to his explosive knock, Punjab chased down the target in just 9.3 overs, finishing at 144/1.

Equals Record for Fastest T20 Century by an Indian

Abhishek Sharma’s 28-ball century equaled the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian in domestic cricket. Last week, Gujarat opener Urvil Patel had also scored a 28-ball century against Tripura in the same tournament. Both players now stand just behind Estonia’s Sahil Chawla, who holds the record for the fastest T20 century, achieved in 27 balls.

Fastest T20 Centuries

  • 27 balls – Sahil Chawla (Estonia vs Cyprus, 2024)
  • 28 balls – Abhishek Sharma (Punjab vs Meghalaya, 2024)
  • 28 balls – Urvil Patel (Gujarat vs Tripura, 2024)
  • 30 balls – Chris Gayle (RCB vs Pune Warriors, 2013)
  • 32 balls – Rishabh Pant (Delhi vs Himachal Pradesh, 2018)

Breaks Suryakumar Yadav’s Mega Record

With his 10th six in the innings, Abhishek Sharma surpassed Suryakumar Yadav’s record for most T20 sixes in a calendar year by an Indian. Abhishek now holds the record with 87 sixes in 2024, overtaking Suryakumar’s tally of 85 sixes in 2022.

  • 85 sixes – Suryakumar Yadav (2022)
