There has been a lot of speculation about Steve Smith’s batting position, but now it seems clear. According to SEN Radio, Steve Smith is likely to bat at number 4 in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia. While it’s not officially confirmed yet, this is what is being suggested. Earlier, there were rumours that Smith might open the batting.
Smith might bat at number 4 against India
After David Warner’s retirement, Australia faced a big question about who would open with Usman Khawaja in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. There were strong chances that Steve Smith might partner Khawaja. However, Smith was not very worried about his batting position. He had said that a batting position is just a number, and he is ready to bat anywhere. Now, it seems Smith will stay in the middle order.
Steve Smith has played 109 Tests so far, scoring 9,685 runs at an average of 56.97. He has also opened the batting in 4 Tests, where he scored 171 runs at an average of 28.50.
The big question is who will open with Usman Khawaja in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. According to SEN Radio, Travis Head might be Khawaja’s opening partner. If this happens, Australia’s top order could look like this: Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, and Steve Smith.
