India clinched their second ICC T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final. Virat Kohli emerged as the hero with a crucial innings of 76 runs, earning him the Player of the Match award. The match was tightly contested, with India successfully defending 16 runs in the final over, thanks to brilliant bowling performances by Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya. This victory marked India’s second T20 World Cup triumph, having previously won in 2007.

India had previously won the T20 World Cup in 2007 but had since struggled to reclaim the title. They reached the final in 2014 but faced defeat. This victory over South Africa in the final marked their first ICC title since the 2013 Champions Trophy, ending a decade-long drought.

South Africa, led by Heinrich Klaasen’s 52 runs, posted 169 runs in their 20 overs. In response, India, powered by Virat Kohli’s 76-run innings, chased down 176 runs to secure the championship. Hardik Pandya took three wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh each claimed two, ensuring India’s victory at Kensington Oval in Barbados without any last-minute changes.

After the game, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from T20 internationals. They will continue playing the IPL, ODIs and Test Cricket. Kohli said that is the time for the new generation to come forward and help India achieve new heights.
