History was made at the IPL 2025 auction as star Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player ever in IPL history, with Lucknow Super Giants securing him for a staggering Rs 27 crore. Pant surpassed Shreyas Iyer’s previous record, who was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore. Additionally, Yuzvendra Chahal set a new benchmark for Indian spinners, becoming the most expensive Indian spinner ever in the IPL, with PBKS acquiring him for Rs 18 crore.
The first player to be sold in the IPL 2025 auction was Arshdeep Singh, who was retained by PBKS through the RTM (Right to Match) card for Rs 18 crore. However, KL Rahul’s sale was underwhelming as he went for just Rs 14 crore to Delhi Capitals. The auction followed this order: Marquee Sets, Capped Batters, All-Rounders, Wicketkeepers, and Capped Bowlers, with the final set on Day 1 featuring the first Uncapped Players set. The two-day auction took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
