The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to host the Champions Trophy next year, but the ongoing dispute between the PCB and BCCI over the tournament’s organization shows no signs of resolution. In an effort to mediate, the ICC has scheduled a virtual meeting with both boards. It is expected that the ICC will pressure Pakistan to host the tournament in a hybrid model. In response, the PCB has issued a new threat, warning that it will retaliate in upcoming tournaments involving India.
PCB’s Retaliation Plan
Following the Champions Trophy, India is set to host two major tournaments. The Women’s ODI World Cup will take place in India next year, and the Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in 2026. Sources cited by The Telegraph reveal that if the PCB is forced to conduct the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model, it will demand similar conditions for these tournaments.
Reportedly, the PCB has warned that if its demands are not met, it may refuse to send its team to India for the Women’s ODI World Cup, insisting on a hybrid model instead. Additionally, for the T20 World Cup in 2026, Pakistan plans to play its matches in Sri Lanka, not India.

If the ICC does not agree to the hybrid model for these two tournaments, the PCB has threatened to withdraw from them entirely. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently stated in a press conference that if India refuses to visit Pakistan, the Pakistan team will not travel to India either.
BCCI’s Response
BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla addressed the Champions Trophy issue, stating, “The ICC is considering hosting the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model, among other options. For us, the safety of Indian players is the top priority, and decisions will be made accordingly. Discussions are ongoing, and we will inform you once everything is finalized.”
