Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has made a bold move by appointing an unknown player as their bowling coach. RCB has named Omkar Salvi as their new bowling coach. Salvi is currently the coach of the Mumbai senior team and is a well-known name in domestic cricket. He has also worked with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the past as an assistant coach.
After his stint with KKR, Salvi was not associated with any franchise cricket due to his contract with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). His contract with Mumbai, where he serves as the head coach, is set to end in March 2025. During his tenure, Salvi led the team to Ranji Trophy and Irani Trophy victories. He is the brother of former Indian pacer Aavishkar Salvi. Under his leadership, the Mumbai team won the Ranji Trophy last season. Salvi is known for working behind the scenes and prefers to stay away from the limelight.
Salvi has played just one List A match for Railways against Madhya Pradesh in 2005. Earlier this year, RCB also appointed Dinesh Karthik as their batting coach and mentor. Interestingly, Karthik and Salvi have previously worked together during their time at KKR.
RCB Retains Three Players
RCB has retained only three players for IPL 2025: Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal. The franchise has released several big names, including Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis. RCB revealed that they intended to retain Cameron Green, but his injury might rule him out of the IPL.
RCB is aiming to find the right combination this year to secure their maiden IPL title.
