The 5-match Border-Gavaskar Test series between India and Australia is set to begin on 22 November. To prepare and get used to Australian conditions, Team India will soon depart for Australia. According to recent reports, Rohit Sharma will travel with the team, but it is still uncertain if he will play in the first Test in Perth. It is said that Rohit Sharma is expecting the birth of his child, which may cause him to miss the first match.
A top source, who spoke to India Today on condition of anonymity, confirmed that while Rohit Sharma will be going to Australia, he might not take part in the first Test.
Earlier, when Rohit was asked about his availability for the opening Test during the New Zealand series, he gave a vague response, saying, “I am not sure if I will go or not, but let’s see what happens. Fingers crossed.”
The source added, “He is travelling, but his participation in the first Test is not yet confirmed. We will have to see what happens next. His availability depends on his personal situation.”
After losing the home series 0-3 to New Zealand, India’s path to the WTC final has become more difficult. To qualify for the final for the third time in a row, India must win at least 4 matches in Australia.
India has not lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since 2014-15 and has defeated Australia on their home soil in the last two tours. This time, India will be aiming for a third consecutive series win.
