The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy continues to witness record-breaking performances. On Friday, November 29, during a match between Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh, Ishan Kishan created history with an explosive strike rate of 334.78. His blistering innings also helped Jharkhand set a new world record. Arunachal Pradesh, after winning the toss and opting to bat, managed to score only 93 runs. Jharkhand chased down the target in just 27 balls, with Kishan smashing 77 runs off 23 deliveries, including 5 fours and 9 towering sixes. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his remarkable performance.
Arunachal’s Struggles with the Bat
Batting first, Arunachal Pradesh collapsed for a mere 93 runs, with no batsman scoring more than 14. Anukul Roy, recently picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL auction for ₹40 lakh, was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets. Ravi Yadav also impressed with three scalps.
Jharkhand’s Record-Breaking Chase
In response, Jharkhand achieved the target in just 27 balls at an incredible run rate of 20.88, the highest in T20 history for any team batting at least one over. This surpassed the previous record of 20.47, held by Romania against Serbia in 2021.
Ishan Kishan’s innings was not only the fastest in the history of the tournament (for players facing at least 20 balls) but also the second-fastest by an Indian in T20s, following Suresh Raina’s 87 off 25 balls during IPL 2014 Qualifier 2 against Kings XI Punjab. Kishan narrowly outperformed Anmolpreet Singh’s strike rate of 334.61 to set this milestone.
This historic chase and Ishan Kishan’s dazzling innings have firmly etched Jharkhand and his name in T20 cricket’s record books.
